A Home Run Getaway

This weekend can pretty much be summed up in pictures. However a few of the pictures probably need a little explanation.

We headed up to Seattle for memorial day weekend with Jared and Nicole Friday night after we all got off of work. We were so grateful for Scott and Adrianne who even though they just had a baby were great and welcomed us into their home and let us stay all weekend. They even managed to convince us to stay an extra night (thats how good of hosts they were)! Thanks for letting us crash at your place.

Saturday we made quick run to Hobby Lobby before heading down town to Pikes place. We explored Pikes, ate a Piroshky for lunch, walked the waterfront, ate some fresh donuts, and then ended the afternoon with a ferry ride to Bremerton, explored a little street fair there (where we listened to a navy band) and then headed back to Seattle, ate some Ivars and then headed to Safeco field for a Mariners game. I will admit that I am not a huge fan of watching baseball on TV, nonetheless in person it was a lot of fun!

Sunday we spent the morning relaxing before we headed out on a little hike to Dungeness spit.

There is a light house at the end of the hike however about half way through we realized that we probably weren't going to make it to the end so we ended up spending the next hour playing drift wood baseball and rock throwing.  Kevin and Jared spent a solid 30 min throwing rocks. One would throw a big rock and the other would attempt to hit the rock with a littler one. It was quite entertaining. Nicole and I attempted it once, but when the big rock I attempted to throw into the water flew behind us and her rock was no where close we decided it was not our kind of sport.  But I have to add that after 30 minutes of near misses the boys finally decided to give up. They threw a last rock to end it and Nicole and I joined in, in throwing the smaller rocks, and I did manage to hit it. Take that boys (okay really I just had to make up for my rock thrown behind me moment).

The rest of the night was spent at Scott's playing games and eating a yummy dinner. In the end I think we hit a home run with this fun getaway.

5 Sports

I always knew that when I married Kevin, my life would forever be filled with sports. And don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, I actually thoroughly enjoy it. So when our weeks are completely full of sports it is not out of the unusual. Nonetheless I myself was even amazed a little when Sunday came around and I pointed out to Kevin that he had participated in 5 sports in the past week.

Kevin is playing in the intramural basketball and volleyball leagues at OHSU and plays every week.

Friday we went to the driving range to golf a little bit (Kevin's recent enjoyment). Kevin attempted to help me with my swing. However he soon realized I have double jointed elbows that don't work well and therefore there was no hope for my swing. Kevin however did work on improving his swing.

Saturday there was a softball tournament for the dental school. 5 hours of softball. It was enjoyable but hot and left us both with sun burns.

Later that night we took up a new sport and went and bought tennis rackets and spent the rest of the evening playing at some local tennis courts. (Which has become a common occurrence, even in the pouring rain).

Silver Falls

Oh camping how I have missed you! When Nicole suggested we go camping this weekend I was beyond thrilled. The boys however mentioned that they had midterms the next week. Nonetheless between the beautiful 80 degree weather and a couple nagging wives we convinced them that it would be a perfect weekend. Jared and Nicole found the camp site and we made some quick plans, packed up the car, and headed out Friday afternoon. I was going to take a picture of the packed car however I failed at doing so, but you will just have to imagine a Ford Escape packed to the roof in the back except for two little seats for Kevin and I to sit in. All part of the adventure.

Friday night we just relaxed around the camp fire ate smores, roasted star burst, and had some great peach cobbler. Mmmm!

Sleeping was surprisingly pretty pleasant. Well almost pleasant.  As Nicole put it, crows, dogs, and children make it very difficult to sleep. Those all began at about 5 so after that sleep was ify for everyone. That morning we had a yummy breakfast of breakfast burritos and then headed out to do some hiking and see some beautiful waterfalls. We only got a little lost on our hike when I decided to take a trail that lead off the main trail. We found our way back to the car though. We headed back to our camp site to eat lunch and pack up. We had tin-foil dinners for lunch played some cards and packed up the car. On our way out we stopped and did one more hike to see some more water falls before heading back to Portland. We have already began to plan our next camping trip :)
